\u00a0<\/span>Our Church History<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/h1>\n

In the early 1800 several men in\u00a0the community of Stanton, Tennessee\u00a0; Charles Broadnax, Willie Fields, Albert\u00a0 Hill, Rufus Hill, Mitchell Ware, Judge\u00a0Jarrett and Robert Green felt that there was an emptiness in their lives.\u00a0 They felt the need of prayer, so without a designed place to worship they met and planned; and\u00a0they came up with a brush hovel.\"mtchurch\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The location was near the city limits of Stanton, Tennessee; under a large tree near the old Dunlap farm.\u00a0 The singing and praying became so effective until the men decided they needed to make a move, so they came up with this gift and it is this current location of MT Zion Missionary Baptist Church.\u00a0 These men were not only prayer warriors but had skills.\u00a0\u00a0 By this time people were getting the message all over this small community of Stanton, Tennessee. The men formed a large kettle in which they were able to mix cement and continue to complete and bake bricks and throw them out for business.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0They began to put the old structure together.\u00a0\u00a0There was no plumbing to worry about because there was none.\u00a0 The Sanctuary was finally complete and the membership grew.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first pastor of MT Zion Missionary Baptist Church was Reverend Samuel Owens; some of our \u00a0former Pastors were Rev. Tyus, Rev. Burroughs, Rev. Luther, Reverend Willie N. Reed, Reverend\u00a0\u00a0Freddie J. Powell, Reverend Hun C. Douglas and Reverend Timothy Bowers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of our historians were; Deacon Mitchel Dye, Deacon Lonnie Taylor, Deacon Thomas Yancy, Deacon Armstead Johnson, Deacon Bob Owens, Deacon T. O. Crews, Deacon Leslie Johnson, and Deacon W. G. Hill, these men were loyal and dedicated to their assignments they helped to support the church and various Pastors of this church for\u00a0many years.\u00a0\u00a0 Some of our Ushers that\u00a0served over 50 years of dedicated service were; Sis. Katie Macklin, Sis. Lucille Gilliam and Sis. Pearl Perry. These dedicated historians help to fulfill God\u2019s purpose as servants\u00a0and we all are so very graceful for their gifts and abilities to serve at MT Zion MBC.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beginning in the 1980\u2019s some of\u00a0 the Church Trustees and Deacons were and some who are still; Benjamin Gilliam.<\/span>Willie L. Jackson, Ed L. Grandberry and Johnnie L. Sangster; and\u00a0 those who are deceased; Zenar Delk, T. J. White, Chester Sangster, William Jones, and Rufus Jones.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the years our Church has gone through several renovations and we have purchased various properties surrounding our Church in\u00a0the Stanton community.\u00a0 Many professionals have made their contribution to this landmark, many children and now adults\u00a0accepted Jesus Christ as their\u00a0Lord and Savior at\u00a0our church, and we are\u00a0graceful\u00a0to God\u00a0for allowing our Church to be a pillar in the community of Stanton, Tennessee. \u00a0 God have chosen many leaders for\u00a0 MT Zion MBC to lead his people.<\/span><\/p>\n

In\u00a0November 2014, we selected Pastor Timothy D. Hayes Sr., as\u00a0 our Senior Pastor.\u00a0 He is\u00a0a visionary and shepherd. Pastor Hayes encourages the hopeless with messages that are inspirational, timely and relevant.<\/span><\/p>\n

We pray through his ministry that our Lord and Savior will continue to bless MT Zion MBC to build his kingdom.\u00a0 We as members of this Church will support and love our Pastor and his\u00a0Family.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.\u00a0 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em>(Ephesians 3:20-21)<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
